ok so last night was an Erie Otters vs Plymouth Whalers game here in Erie. [[OHL]]

there was about 6 or 7 minutes left of the 3rd period, and they were tied 2-2. one of the Otters get a 5 minute penalty. play goes on, 5 minutes expire then Plymouth realize 'omg, otters didn't have anyone in the box!' so then they're yelling at the refs who didn't notice that either during those 5 minutes. they went 5 minutes without a whistle too. it was pretty amazing. but THEN the refs make the 'too many men' call or whatever after the 5 minutes had past so we got a 2 minute, and got scored on shorthanded with 20 seconds left.

it was very upsetting because the Otters are really sucky lately and have now lost 10 or 11 games in a row.

can refs make calls after the fact like that? i never heard of that before.

I've never heard of anything like it.

Did the penalized team have 5 men on the ice right at the end of the penalty?

I don't know OHL (or NHL) rules, but in the NFL too many men can be reviewed (called after the fact). If they caught it either during the 5 minute period, or immediately after, I wouldn't be surprised if it would be okay.

yes, they had 5 men out the whole time. there wasn't a whistle until after the 5 minutes had expired.

I went to a few of their games before I moved to Ohio.

their players overall are so much better looking than ours.

one of my little sisters got to scrimmage after the 1st period so when i went to the locker room to get her dressed i ran into all of the Whalers.
and they smelled like hockey

Strange, but if they had 5 skaters while killing a penalty that would be the too many men.

In hockey, typically no. It can be infuriating how much power the refs have unchecked.

If play had not stopped, they could have been OK calling it on the whistle if the PP team had control.

It's still strange.

but they DIDN'T call it until there was a whistle for something else.
they blew the whistle for some other call, but i forget for what.

they are still stupid and because of their incompetence we lost another game!

They could have called it for a 5 on 3 and you could have lost by 2.
