  • Proof that Chicago's problems are more than just QB deep...

    • I think they're mostly QB and injuries so far... we'd have won today with a QB who didn't throw an INT for a TD after all, or a QB who didn't throw two INTs on the goal line.

Just imagine either of those INTs turning into FGs... tie game and we win in OT (of course )

      • I don't see how you reach that conclusion.
Benson with 15 rushing attempts compared to 52 passes? Why? That's the play calling. Does Greise call his own plays?
Until the Bears establish the running game, allow it to be established, it will be just this way.

        • I'm imagining that the 1st INT @ the goal would've caught by a player on top of his game, not tipped into the defenders hands. Yeah, it was a little behind but it was still very catchable.

The offensive line isn't stopping people. When that happens, it doesn't matter who's QB... you'll have hurries plays & INTs. Part of what makes Brady so powerful is that he has ALL DAY in the pocket to find a receiver.

The defense is folding in the 4th, and today they didn't have the excuse of being tired.

          THERE'S NO RUNNING GAME.

Chicago needs an overhaul. I'd start by looking at the "offensive coordinator".

The Bears were penalized 14 times for 102 yards.

That's true as far as it goes. But he returns punts as well.

Meahwhile... KC has come back to take the lead on San Diego. Cardinals run back a punt to take the lead vs. Pittsburgh.

I attribute that to a lot of new faces in the lineup. Once the injured return, it shouldn't be an issue (I hope).

                    • The Bears' penalties today were uncharacteristic. Since Lovie took over, they've been one of the least penalized teams in the league.

Regarding play-calling, it's a delicate balance. There's been a lot of talk here about opening up the offense, that Turner has been too basic and predictable while trying to establish the running game. So today, they pass more on first down and lose, so they'll be criticized again. The offense looked crisp and creative in preseason, but the new weapons -- Hester, Olsen and Wolfe -- haven't seen any real playing time.

Griese was clearly a little rusty, a little indecisive, and it cost the Bears 4 turnovers and the game. Dropped passes were a problem again, especially Berrian, who would likely be near the league lead if he wasn't dropping them so often. And obviously, the O-line is not pulling its considerable weight. They look old.

Bottom line: The Bears are their own worst enemy on offense. Turnovers, dropped passes and penalties can't really be blamed on the coordinator. It's just poor execution.

The defense is an issue as well, but that's mostly injuries. Briggs, Mike Brown, Tillman, Vasher, Archuleta, and Dvoracek were out today. That's over half the starters.

                      • Exactly right about Greise. Hasn't started since 2005.
I'm not on his case. Bears haven't run Benson but about 15 per game yet. He isn't even warmed up and the game is over. Give it to him 25, or more.

                          • Arrrghhh...

Reddit.com has become so famous and frequently-used that it is not enough to take advantage from visiting its website from your personal computer.

                            Cadillac: “It’s Severe”

It is believed to be that Bucs RB Cadillac Williams tore the patella tendon in his right knee during Tampa Bay’s 20-7 victory against Carolina.

Williams was on crutches after Tampa Bay’s 20-7 victory against Carolina and would not elaborate, but was not optimistic about his injury.

“I don’t know what it is. All I know is it’s severe,” Williams said.

Williams hurt his right knee during the first quarter against Carolina after a hit by Panthers safety Chris Harris. He was in agony after the injury and taken off the field in a golf cart. He is expected to have an MRI on Monday to access the damage.

In addition, Bucs left tackle Luke Petitgout he sprained his right knee and also plans to have more details tomorrow.

“I shouldn’t be out long,” Petitgout said.
The last thing we needed was injuries to screw around with our momentum, especially heading into a road matchup with a team like Indianapolis. Least of all losing your top RB for the year and your O-line anchor for an indeterminate amount of time.

I hope whatever Petitgout has is minor and he's ready to go by next Sunday...
