I kinda like UFC, but I prefer boxing, mostly because I like seeing a fight go 12 rounds.
Boxing is great but no where near the conditioning necessary to compete in grappling/kicking and punching style competitions.
I hope no one gets seriously hurt in UFC cage matches, but I so much more enjoy UFC/PRIDE/MMA matches to the K-1 or older PKA Matches.
The elbow smashing the face while pinned is hard to endure.
So is the knee's to the ribs.
or hyper extending an appendage
I am surprised in the matches when i saw a spinning backfist.
This is a blind techniques and akin to an old John Wayne haymaker
I also love that you can wear a persons legs down with kicks.
That is something I allways used in my arsenal as a bouncer, if I locked up with someone, back and forth i would go to inside and outside of the knees and legs.

That's why I hate boxing. ****ing dumb. Tap tap tap clinch. Tap tap clinch. Repeat for an hour.

KH, I was watching some different matches over the past year and am thinking if a rule change does come into effect with UFC matches, it should be you have to make contact with your opponent every 10 seconds, i.e. punch, kick or attempted take down.
In the beginning match between Rampage and Iceman, Liddel was dancing around the ring, and then Rampage had to ask him or beckon him, to come and get some.
I was watching the buildup to this title fight and I so did love the remark Rampage had about tonights fight, he told everyone, "Im gonna whoop Chuck's @zz"
No. All fights have 5 minute rounds. Championship fights go 5 rounds, while regular bouts go 3.
5 minutes comes from wrestling. 3 minutes isn't enough to let the grappling develop properly. Boxing happens in spans of a few seconds. Grappling takes longer.
Q F T!!
Another point I would like to emphasize, I dont think a true matchup between two experienced and veteran fighters could go 15 rounds like in Boxing. K-1, IIRC, has a maximum of 5 three minute rounds.
Anyhoo, I wish David Floyd was here, I did not used to have a level of respect for this type, but since watching the training aspect of it and then followed up with actual matches, i have to concur it is very tough training to compete

I like UFC but anyone who thinks these guys have anywhere near the cardio levels of world class boxers is insane!!

Just asking, have you any data to substantiate this claim?
I believe it would be somewhat difficult to defend that, but perhaps you do have a point. Having a cardio level higher doesnt mean they are in better condition, or does it?
Just the number of top UFC/MMA fighters I see gassed after 5-10 minutes of (not even particulary frenetic) fighting. I know the styles are different (and I'm not a big fan of comparing boxing to MMA as they are different disiplines/sports but someone brought it up earlier in the thread so I thought 'why not?') but you'd never see a top boxer showing those signs after comparable exersion/ pressure.
I don't think top MMA guys are anywhere near as well conditioned as top boxers.

Dude, when you're seriously grappling it's basically equivalent to constantly chinning yourself. For 5 straight minutes.
The conditioning required is both cardio and muscular endurance. Wrestling does very strange things to you. I'm a runner and I played Rugby in high school. When I wrestled, it was a whole different level of tired. In pure cardio your limbs start to get heavy, your chest hurts etc. When you wrestle you actually get weak. Your hands start shaking. Your legs start shaking. You can barely stand up any more.
World class boxers would probably run MMA guys into the ground. As would soccer players, cross country skiers etc. But if you asked them to jog with their own body weight strung across their backs then I know who I'd pick...
