The Orioles are playing Detroit for their home opener. I've got my ticket.

It's weird. We can accurately measure the speed of light, but apparently not the speed of a thrown baseball.

        is much more consistent

We were at Wrigley last year and had seats behind two rows of scouts. There were proably over a dozen speed guns being used. After a pitch I'd take a quick glance and 3 guns would be showing one speed, three others showing a different speed and another three showed an even different one.
I could see a 5 mph swing. It was funny because while it was usually consistent (the slower speed always showing on the same guns) sometimes it wasn't. On one pitch the gun that had generally been the slowest one actually clocked the fastest.
RAH I want you to testify for me the next time a I get a speeding ticket

Just a little follow-up. Per Fox Sports Detroit.

In 2006 there were 336 pitches thrown 100 mph or higher in an official baseball game. They went as follows:

Zumaya 233 All other pitchers 103.

              That is awesome.

              How many did Verlander get?

I can't remember where I read it, but IIRC Verlander was third in 100+ mph pitches, in the 20-30 range I think.

Tigers looking pretty good so far. Offense is still a little anemic; they scored 10 yesterday, but much of that was due to Toronto mistakes (if not errors). Still, can't argue with the way they're taking advantage of the opportunities given them. Durbin is struggling something awful, though. May need to call up Miner or Miller soon.

If they maded 101 the cutoff it would probably be something like Zumaya 55 All of Baseball 1. LOL

Or let Ledezma have a start and see what he can do. If only Rodney had his act together what would they be 9-2 10-1. Maybe he's this year's Todd Jones.

Ugh, tell me about it. I went to the Baltimore home opener here vs. the Tigers. I think it was Durbin's first start, he got killed.
