  • I think offense is harder to build. QB is the most important position, and IMO there are fewer quality starting QBs than there are teams. So not everyone is going to have a starter, let alone a Brady or a Manning (Peyton, that is - you might get an Eli).

Your offense starts up front with the OL. And if you manage to put together 5 solid guys, it's hard to keep all of them together with free agency. Seattle was hurt by the loss of Steve Hutchinson. Plus how many teams have an outstanding LT?

Losing key guys on offense can hurt, too. What if your starting QB goes down? Or your franchise back? Or both? Patriots did a good job of getting as far as they did, but did they miss Branch at the end?

    • Possible free agents are Freeney, Harper, June, and Rhodes, and they're pretty close up against the cap. My best guess is that they find a way to keep Freeney, let Harper and June go, and keep Rhodes only if he will stay for the vet minimum.
Or they get rid of Simon...

            • Check out the size of the QB at 4 from Texas. He's about as big as the DE at 5.

              • Wow, that's huge. Bigger than Lorenzen (used to be at Kentucky), IIRC.

                  • London game sparks early UK ticket rush
                    BY ARMANDO SALGUERO

The Dolphins' game in London on Oct. 28 apparently is a hot ticket.

Approximately 160,000 fans have requested half a million tickets in the three days following the announcement that the Dolphins and Giants would play a regular-season game at Wembley Stadium.

''This is an overwhelming response and endorsement of the NFL's decision to play the first regular-season game outside North America in London,'' Alistair Kirkwood, the managing director of NFL United Kingdom, said in a statement.

``Nearly all these requests have come from UK-based fans. These figures do not take into account the allocation of tickets for Dolphins and Giants fans from the United States. We anticipate a quick sellout when tickets go on sale in early March.''

The NFL has promised the Dolphins an allotment of tickets, and tickets will be made available to local Dolphins fans from that allotment, with season-ticket holders likely getting preference, according to club president Bryan Wiedmeier.

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga also has said the team will try to put together flight and ticket packages, although that is not a certainty.

A ticket registration process for the game was set up as a fan service for registered members of the NFL's UK website. Word spread among fans, and the website's server crashed several times because of the heavy traffic.

The process will close Feb. 18 -- at least two months before tickets go on sale to the general public. A lottery will determine who among the registered fans receives tickets.

Seating capacity in the refurbished Wembley Stadium is expected to be between 85,000 and 90,000.

OAHU, Hawaii (Feb. 10, 2007) -- It has gotten so maddening and frustrating in Detroit that, even in the offseason, the Lions now suffer losses.

Lions sources said they now expect to lose running back Kevin Jones for at least half the 2007 season due to the Lisfranc injury he suffered in December that required surgery on his left foot three days later.

Up until now, there had been questions surrounding when Jones might be able to return. Now the Lions are hoping Jones will be able to return six to eight weeks into the 2007 season, which means that Detroit must revise its offseason priorities.

A running back now moves near the top of the list of Detroit's needs. The Lions will explore the free-agent market and take a look at San Diego's restricted free-agent running back Michael Turner and Arizona's unrestricted free-agent running back Marcel Shipp.

The Lions, scheduled to pick second in the April NFL draft, also like Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, and will debate picking him there. But Detroit does have concerns about Peterson's durability and injury history, which could cause them to lean towards taking Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas.

But the bottom line is this: As if the Lions didn't already have enough needs, now they have one more. They need to find a running back this offseason in the event that Jones won't be ready until midway through the '07 season, as the team now expects.
