    Mmm. I did read though that there's still the issue of how many games each of the players will participate in individually?
    ie: It sounds as though Monsieur Robinson may have a bit of a juggling act to go through such that no player faces more than his fair share of haka's, so to speak.
    I am finding it a little difficult to imagine that this will be of great benefit to the continuity of the English game.

      I'd've thought the issue was whether there were players of sufficient quality in any of the England club comps worth picking.

        The Domestic game has aleady been all but sacrificed to the national side anyway Ravagon. It is all down to the same old problem really - we play far too much rugby in the UK. Would NZ scehdule a tri-nations test for the same day an NPC round took place for example? Does Super 14 and the tri-nations overlap at all? The English Premiership on the other hand continues throughout the six nations!

        The RFU have promised no player will play in all four tests this autumn - the clubs have read this as saying that all senior players will be taken for the NZ and two Bok tests whilst the fringe and A side players will be whipped away for the Argentina test.

        One huge advantage NZ and Aus both enjoy over England is that their Unions control the whole shooting match.

        I've explained before how the RFU messed up the move to Professional rugby I think? They offered appalling terms to centrally contract players at the beginning (players would have effectively played almost for 'free' still) so the clubs stepped in an contracted players directly - leading to the ongoing strife between power bases we have today.

          Nice one Finbar.

          The quality of players is there - the coach however is very much the wrong man and we play far too many games. I suspect the Aussie tests would have been much tighter had we had a coach with a triple figure IQ and players who arrived only having played 20 or so games that season.

          The terrible thing here is that it is possible England will beat the ABs you know - the Blacks are certainly due a mis-step and even now the Twickenham factor can play a part. It would be catastrophic of course in reinforcing Robinsons delusions.

          And we have a very good chance against the Boks if the refs keep pinging their rush defence as they have so far this season. I think Argentina might be more problematic than the Boks.

          Jordan Crane (the England U19 skipper we assett stripped from relgated Leeds) is generating a buzz at Tigers - being touted as our best number 8 prospect since Deano (and our incumbent is Corry). I am looking forward to seeing the lad play.

            QED. The tragedy of English rugby is that the RU are apparently not up to running the show. Because the Union should run the show. Clubs can't and shouldn't be allowed to run the show because of the fundamental conflict of interest. Particularly when the clubs are relatively big businesses, and sponsor-driven, as the England clubs are.

            Anyway. I listened to the second half of the second half today. Sounded like a good game. I didn't hear one successful AB lineout.

              Yeah, the AB lineouts were shocking. Thankfully, they were made up for by excellent defence. No doubt they will use their bye to sort out this area of their game.

              I don't really read much rugby news these days, so this question will probably make it sound like I've been living under a rock...why are there 9 Tri-nations games this year?

                I'm just back from Anglet (between Biarritz and Bayonne) where I played beach rugby against a few teams, one of which included former internationals. I can now say that I played against Michael Lynagh (and Jack Isaac, Pool-Jones, ...). One of the players I played against was Tardits, a French player who played in the U.S several years in the NFL and for the American rugby team. I suppose one can fit two or three regular men between these shoulders.

                  I don't really read much rugby news these days, so this question will probably make it sound like I've been living under a rock...why are there 9 Tri-nations games this year?
                  The idea is so that trophies like the Bledisloe and Nelson Mandela Cup can be properly decided as opposed to having to win two games.

                      Yes, Richard Tardits. There were also Patrice Lagisquet, and Laurent Cabannes came in later but he was not playing when we met that team.

                              Howard is a good man from what I've heard. He's reined in government spending and refuses to kowtow to ethnic lobbies.
