There is ~70000 lines of it. The first hour was spent trying to determine what variable names were the key ones so I could do searches for instances of them.

I spent 16 months debugging C, C++, and Fortran code predominately written by Physics PhDs (with the goal of finding out if the compiler or optimizer was broken, or the user was broken).

Fortunately, whenever I got bored with a problem I could hide behind IBM's policy of "100 lines of code or less per issue, with no external dependencies". Most people just said '**** that' and closed the ticket.

Damn, it's been over almost a decade since I had to review fortran code.

But I have pity for anyone that has to make coding changes in old code that was never documented and probably written by unstructured programmers.
