It was already deep into it's downward spiral while MarkG was still on board.

I think the ownership of CFC stayed interested in civ, designed a much better front page, and dealt with technical issues much faster then poly did. That's why they pulled ahead and still get 3-4 times the traffic. Their site doesn't have server/software issues and because the owner was always interested in Civ he kept pushing Civ related material all the time while Markos drifted off into other things (eventually leaving because he had no spare time) while DanS seems to have just hung in there out of habit but wasn't really much interested either. CFC's great interest in the topic shone through attracting more people interested in the topic while poly's technical problems didn't help. Those problems continue to this day and are the #1 issue which will chase new people away.

i'm not trying to bash Poly, but recently the time when the server isn't actually malfunctioning is less than anytime before.
Fixing this issue should be now priority #1.

It doesn't really need one.
I admit it that panda.com is much less populated than Poly, but at least the traffic rate there is constant and there's absolutely no sign that it'll die away in the near future. I was concerned that WPC would probably be shrinking away into oblivion after I saw that traffic was dropping after the first initial days since its opening, but those worries stayed unconfirmed and I can claim that this forum has successfully lifted off.

And for all those WPC-haters out there: Dale itself is just a tiny part of the whole community, don't condemn an entire place just for one person.
