Ming, I'm disappointed. What you describe is simply not true. WePlayCiv is on the contrary very much influenced by and positive to Apolyton. If anything, it might be too similar to Poly, some people have complained it's too many poly users there, and too few from other sites.

I got banned from CFC for bashing the French once. I thought everyone bashed the French, 'cept French Canadians of course.

It's not. There's constant snipes about Apolyton there, and threads dedicated to it in a negative light.

Someone registered there as Asher. But as far as I can see, it has not been used yet.

What's true, is that the atmosphere there is much alike what Poly was a few years ago, more friendly. But except the Asher-hate, which was taken care of by the admins, there's no such thing as Ming describes.

Ming, i dont think that any hatred on WPC (and i just browsed 5 pages of their forum) is directed at ACS, but rather on some specific poster(s). They are trying to differ themselves from ACS, by explicitely saying that certain behaviour, that led them to feel the way they do, and has been tolerated here, will not be tolerated there.

The bosses of WPC may have stated, that the main reason for the foundation of their site was NOT the drama going on here, but rather that they saw better chances for presenting content with a new site, but as long as this content wont be up there, i am somewhat reluctant to believe that.

I want to state, that i believe what the majority of users, who migrated there (and i may actually follow soon), think that, while totally doing it in a wrong fashion, Dale did what many others would have liked to do as well and have a feeling of understanding for it. This becomes apparent, when Dale can state, that vbulletin2 (or whatever - i have no idea about this stuff) only allows for 400 deletes with one hit - implying, that he would have deleted the entity of asher´s posts on poly, had it been possible without a great effort - without getting any protest whatsoever. And many (and i am only stating what i think many people think, but dont dare saying) would have actually liked to see that happen.

My personal feeling is that i want to congratulate those ´online-warriors´: You won - Poly will be all yours soon, as it seems. Everyone else leaves the ´battlefield´ and concedes total control of it to you. Get the champaign out - you finally did it - after tenths of thousands of posts (of all contributing combined, deleted ones included - some garnished with valuable content, i will admit). What a splendid effort and what a great contribution to the civ-community it was! Now i will eternally admire your strength and wits. (- so little is our loss, so little is thy gain -)

In general, if a poster posts on a civ-site, stating that playing civ* is for loosers, basically, then i have to wonder and question the ambition of that poster on that specific site**. Talking to people (loosers, you call them), the majority of whom, dont seem to like you (or at least being called loosers) and which you take delight on insulting everytime they dare to post something, pretty much?

If you allow someone to attack contributor´s work and the contributors themselves the way it was done, then you shouldnt wonder, that these contributors, at one point or the other, just leave, stop giving a damn about your site and actually start to call it a bad place.

An experiment of freedom put to failure by some - that is what Poly will remain in my memory. Either it will enforce harsher moderation, it will be the realm of a couple of ´flame-warriors´, or it will just die. This is merely an observation and trust me - i really wished, it hadnt come that far.

By joining WPC, nobody would condone death-threats. If anything, it´s a sign that they do not condone forum-wars with personal insults in every second post - cause they are aware that this may lead to such extremes. Had Poly maintained a harsher rule on such, very few would have left in the first place (and, yes, some blame for that has to be put on you as well, Ming, though this developement may have been apparent beforehand).

                ------------------------------

*Civ = Civilization and related games, as covered on ACS

**seriously: since that person is obviously not interested in what the site is all about, if i was a mod, i´d PM, asking for verification of that statement, and if the answer was ´yes, i meant that´, the only logical consequence would be a permanent ban with a gentle asking never to return (yeah, fascist i know). At least that person would have to explain to me, quite in detail, what he/she wanted here then - and the answer better be a good one.

I registered at WPC. It's a good place, lots of new-forum jitters and fun.

I'm staying with Poly too. All that means is I have two bookmarks to check instead of one when I'm doing my Civ-related browsing.

I agree that goodwill and harmony between WPC and Poly is crucial. When you have sites that support a common pastime, effort spent working apart instead of together is wasted effort. One way to quickly build camaraderie would be to unite and verbally abuse CFC.

It's not been taken care of. It is demonstrable that the admins there are feeding lies to their posters about what they call the "Asher Drama" with Dale.

They've told their newbs that Dale was "extremely provoked" to do what he did, which is untrue. For instance.

Someone already registered HARDMAN. I suspect it was a mod since there has been no attempt to HARDMAN the forum.

While I agree that you are a fascist, this is getting out of hand.

There's a huge segment of posters that are using me, specifically, as a scapegoat. The long story short is the on-topic posters are not doing their jobs. There's no news stories, there's no interesting on-topic threads, and there's no reason to visit the on-topic. As a result, on-topic has whithered and mostly died.

Rather than admitting they had failed -- I'm thinking Dale, Solver, and Locutus specifically -- it is easier for them to blame others. It is ridiculous to blame people who are confined to the OT for killing activity in the on-topic forums.

You guys need to man up, identify the problems, and address it. This blame-Asher schtick is old and nonsensical.

According to Solver, 60% of the visits to Poly is now in the OTF. That should make it clear that the OTF isn't the problem, since we haven't grown really. The problem is the on-topic has died, and it's because of administrative bungling and ineptitude more than anything else. And the admins responsible for on-topic content have now fled to another site. Rather than being a pawn in their game, look at the situation critically. Is the cause of Poly's on-topic decline the strong personalities in the OTF, or is it the management of the on-topic content?

I kind of have to agree. It sounds like a pretty weak denial, and even told them that, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
