A FRIENDLY competition between Civ community sites.

The rivalry between Apolyton and CFC has always been a good and friendly one. Yeah, Apolyton was number one in the old days, and then CFC crushed us and is now the established leader... But it's always been a friendly community. We may laugh at their nazi approach to modding, but there is really no hositility and no direct attacks at each other. If anything, it's still a civ community, with people here providing links to CFC if they offer an answer to a problem that we don't.

Another strong civ site is a good thing for the community, and I wish Weplayciv all the best luck in the world. But it seems apparent from their forums, and the discussions that they allow, that they don't wish Apolyton the best luck in the world. As a matter of fact, it seems that they wish this site harm and would enjoy nothing more than watching this site fade away. Almost like a petty little vendetta.

I'm all for a little competition between sites... but this goes beyond that.
How can they claim they want to be a part of the community...
    Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

I think this question needs to be asked: Is joining WePlayCiv in effect condoning Death Threats?

Could you please start a thread on that, Ming?

DanQ is even hosting Polycasts there going forward. This whole thing is crazy. I've long said these people are crazy.

WPC seemed like a fresh CIV new chapter at first...
Then I was told some background to the whole situation...
Way too much politics and potential vendettas...

It's Poly CIV2 SL for me anyway, that's my hangout.

If I'm the one that needs drama, why is it you following me around trying your best to provoke me? This is far from the first time in recent days.

The problem is you're not good at it and not worth the venom.

When this site dies, what will they talk about at WePlayCiv?

Honestly I hope all of them do well but right now there are definitely bad feelings out there. I'm honestly not sure there are enough active users/posters out there to support three large communities and the internet is full of dead Civ sites which launched well and then petered out. It's a hard thing to do to establish a new site but it is also hard to keep on going. Maybe enough new players will be brought in by Civ5 for all three to prosper but I'm not sure it will especially since civ3 sucked donkey balls while Civ4 frankly sucked on release. Firaxis is really going to have to beta test and polish the new game prior to release (no more half finished games) because if they launch another turd I doubt we'll see lots of new people looking to join Civ forums.

Has anyone mentioned what a horrible ass name WePlayCiv is? If it doesn't make you think of taking it in the ass, then you are officially the straightest guy I know.

Civ4 sucked on release? Really? I don't recall that at all.

To be fair, there has been much vitriol spat at WPC here, myself included. If it comes down to it, I think we can take 'em.

Has Sloww left us for WPC? Haven't seen him here in a few days, and he's been all over the boards over there. I'd hate to lose Tex.

So Civ 5 is really coming out, and I finally bought 4? That figures.

Wiggy is right.* WePlayCiv is an awful name.

HA! Ask, and ye shall receive. Welcome, Sloww.

No news on Civ5 that I'm aware of, but it is inevitable.

Sloww, what can we do to keep our favourite Texan on the right side of this whole thing?

I remember deleting it from my hard drive in about a week. It was buggy and not very fun. It became more fun after the expansion packs and bug fixes but by then there was almost no one on the MP forum. I tend to think the number of players playing a game is a good indication of if a game sucks or not.
