The new Killers song, "Human". Electronica-dance inspired, but still Killers. Interesting.

I've been so away from the popular music scene, I had no idea a new album came out until the day before yesterday. It's almost unthinkable that a new Metallica album would come out and I wouldn't even know about it (let alone not buy it on the first day). But my music tastes have changed. I listen to classical music almost primarily. I sometimes flip on the jazz station if the classical music station is playing something I don't particularly like.

But I still like metal, particularly thrash metal. Which may be outdated (but nearly so as classical ), but is still my most favoured metal genre. Yet... I really don't listen to it anymore. So I'm undecided whether to buy it. I haven't bought an album in years.

An interesting thing I heard is that metal music fans and classical music fans have alot in common. Which I'm not sure I believe. But it might explain why I like both genres most over others.

Anyone here into Trampled by Turtles?

Bluegrass on speed. Awesome. I've seen 'em live once -- incredible.

I don't have any postable stuff, but here's the link to their webpage -- you can play some of their stuff from there.

            I'd recommend starting with "Codeine".

Slowwy, I think you might like this.

It would certainly explain why there have been a number of metal-orchestra collaborations, e.g. Metallica's "S&M" or Dream Theater's "Score." It actually works surprisingly well.

Check out this conclusion starting at 6:08 for instance (especially Petrucci's solo starting 7:28, it'll send chills down your spine):

                    Unbelievable!

The intro to Metropolis worked well with a symphony too:

In fact, I think all of the Score DVD is up on youtube by now. Good stuff

                        Kirsty MacColl R.I.P
"MacColl had a busy, successful year in 2000, with the success of Tropical Brainstorm, as well as her participation in the presentation of a radio programme she had done for the BBC on Cuba.[1] MacColl decided to take a much needed holiday, and she, her partner, musician James Knight and her sons travelled to Cozumel, Mexico. She intended to introduce her sons during the trip to an activity she loved – scuba diving. On 18 December 2000, she and her sons went diving in Cozumel, in a specific diving area that watercraft were restricted from entering. With the group was a local veteran divemaster, Iván Díaz. As the group was surfacing from a dive, a speeding powerboat entered the restricted area. MacColl saw the boat coming before her sons. Louis was not in the boat's path, but Jamie was. She was able to push him out of the way (he sustained minor head and rib injuries) but in doing so, she was hit by the boat and killed instantly.[2] MacColl's remains were repatriated to the United Kingdom and the subsequent funeral took place at Mortlake Crematorium in London."

Yesterday would have been her birthday.
