Ive finished both 1491 and Harry Potter.

Havent gotten back to the library, and not interested in buying till we deal with some housework issues relating to our books and bookcases.

So until I get to the library again, Ive picked up a book I already own but havent finished "The Labyrinth of Exile, A life of Theodore Herzl" which is interesting, but I can take in small doses. The author is a tad to unsympathetic to the Orthodox, and sounds sometimes like he should have written a bio of Achad Ha-am instead.

Has anyone ever heard of John Ledyard?? I picked up his biography, American Traveler, for $5.

He sailed around the Pacific with Captain Cook and became the first American to set foot in Hawaii, Alaska and the west coast of North America. He went into business with John Paul Jones. Later, after talking with Ambassador Thomas Jefferson in Paris, he a decided walk around the world. He began in Copenhagen and almost made it across Russia when Catherine the Great had him arrested and deported to Poland.

Dune: The Machine Crusade

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

The first book in this three volume prequal to Dune ( The Butlerian Jihad ) was very good compared to what I had assumed before I picked it up.

Wow, you must have assumed it was going to be the worst book ever. I read it and wasn't impressed.

I did.

Still, it answered some questions that Frank Herbert never got around to and maintained a story flow. I had feared the worst...that I would be reading a poorly put together rehash of Frank Herbert's notes. The historical benefit for those interested in the Dune Universe makes it worthwhile imho.

Dune was an incredibly good book imho. From there, some of the ideas got a bit...unusual? hmmm...weird? hmmmm....not sure what they got, but I agree that they were nowhere near as good as Dune.

Dune was excellent. I also liked #s 2 & 3, though less than #1.

God Emperor was dreck, and I stopped reading after that.

I think I only bothered with two of the prequels.
