Friggin AfD won a federal state for the first time.

    :HappyPutin: ....and :HappyDonnie: too.

Not sure if they can actually govern yet.

    /cts.

Given that so-called "populists" from Donnie to Orban to Farage mostly failed to deliver in recent years it's beyond me why ppl would think the AfD is different, but oh well.

If they are anything like Reform the answer is "no". They are utterly crap at anything other than grievance.

The AfD is usually moaning about the "old parties" not keeping their promises. That may be true sometimes, but the AfD guys who won this election were like "we'll only govern when we have an absolute majority" -- cuz entering a coalition with any of those "old parties" would lead to "bad" compromises.

Now, after they won, but missed the absolute majority they're confident to build a government "until the end of the year"

Although Tobias Rausch's role is largely symbolic, opponents have described the result as a watershed moment.

So far it's all regional only. I still find it concerning tho. And I also regard it as failure of any "established" parties (which the AfD love to attack for anything justified or not).

Folks can vote for what they want, but I don't understand why so many vote for a party which so far has only reinforced divsions and strives indeed mostly on grievances, but offers little otherwise. Sigh signofthetimes it seems.

However, them AfD guys now feel superconfident that they win the whole country soon, but that's an entirely different thing.

Reform started to win local elections, and either ****ed up or had their lies laid bare, and then started losing again. It's hard to be a non-establishment party of grievances once you have actual power and can't manage garbage collection or say you don't know how government works..

One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Merz (who is not popular these days) has now Burnham in Berlin. Maybe he teaches Merz some tricks how he can reign in the AfD (unless they do it themselves as you describe, which I would welcome)
