Voltaire notwithstanding, if we owe honesty to the dead, I can honestly say that I know this about Sloww: he was a proud Texan and Methodist, he died at an advanced but not remarkable age of heart and kidney disease, he is survived by daughters, his real name was David Ivey, he liked Civ, and he was conventionally conservative and Republican and embraced Trumpy talking points on this forum. That's about it. We have no idea what kind of person he was IRL; at least, I don't, and I don't imagine PH spent a lot of time crossing the Atlantic to get to know the old guy better. It's entirely possible he was the sort of old man who lived in a crummy house and dumped half his Social Security check into charity. We simply don't know.

But since it appears we must talk about Voltaire anyway, I'm a big fan of separating the art from the artist, and I guess that would count for a clever quote as much as for anything else. Mind you, the quote ain't all that clever to my way of thinking, and what little I know of Voltaire (read Candide in HS, nothing else) leads me to believe he thought himself a good deal cleverer than he actually was. While Geronimo does not seem to have clarified that this was sarcastic, I would like to note that you seem to have thought this was a sane thing to take seriously. What's the final death count for the Nazis? Something in the multiple tens of millions, between the Holocaust and direct war deaths? And then you add the various Germans who died as a result of a war that was overwhelmingly Hitler's fault. And Germany itself basically reduced to rubble. Are you doing some kind of bizarro math where you look at knock-on deaths from economic losses, add in various deaths from vaccine refusals etc, and somehow it seems halfway reasonable to say sure, this is in the same ballpark as gas chambers and gang-raping your way from Poland to Russia?

You can estimate USAID as being over 10m (by the end of the 2030s). We need to see what happens in the newly destabilized world, but it could get much, much worse.

I read Geronimo to be predicting what future historians would say (obviously we can't say in the middle; even the Allies in WW2 couldn't give accurate estimates). I think his prediction is reasonable, but I hope it is wrong.

There is plenty of antisemitism in the world that has nothing to do with Israelis. Actually, considering that a large portion of jews outside of Israel (in many places, I think a majority) do not support the actions of the current Israeli government, I would say that the majority of the antisemitism in the Western world has nothing to do with Israelis.
