I'm unsure of American stats, but according to Statistics Canada (2021) under 1% of Canadians identify as Jewish, and slightly over 4% identify as Muslim. The pro-Israel lobby, however, is very strong, vocal, and will always play the 'anti-semite' card if anyone questions Israel. The federal NDP, (3rd party/left of centre) just elected a Jewish leader who is pro-2-state solution for Israel/Palestine and quite anti-Zionist. Should be interesting.

IDF: We launched Operation 'Eternal Darkness' in Lebanon; working assumption - fighting with Iran will resume

The IDF explained that the extensive strikes in Lebanon were carried out as part of a new operation called "Eternal Darkness" - a focused and wide-ranging operation targeting all of Hezbollah's command and control centers in southern Lebanon, Beirut and the Bekaa Valley. The timing of the operation was explained as the result of operational conditions being met, regardless of the Iranian arena - meaning they did not wait for a ceasefire with Iran before launching the operation in Lebanon. The IDF also added that "the working assumption of the Air Force and the IDF is that the fighting with Iran will resume - and forces will need to operate again on short notice."

The thing wrong with Osama's take is taxes aren't optional. Voting for those who make the horrible decisions is a better metric to determine who is sponsoring the atrocities. Though Moby goes overboard by painting even the opposition who didn't vote for it as complicit.

Maybe people would vote for better candidates if voting for a genocidal maniac was itself considered a war crime.

Tax-paying - as opposed to voting - is indeed not optional. But both OBL and Moby are trying to assign blame to their preff'ed enemy to justify their stance(s), essentially by threating large group(s) of people as monolithic block(s), which is never a good idea.

Moby not allowing for any opposing views inside Israel is one thing, but there are other factors - for example voting for someone like Netanyahu means people could know he was a hardliner, but foreknowledge of the Gaza war is a completely different thing, as this would also require foreknowledge of the Oct 7th Hamas attacks.

Bringing any differentiation into this topic would require to move away from simplistic black and white "verdicts", which Moby isn't really known for, in my xp.

I get the anger behind what you’re saying; people are reacting to real suffering and it’s hard not to feel outraged. But it might help to separate governments and policies from entire populations. Even in democracies, decisions don’t reflect every individual’s views, and there are always people inside those societies pushing back, protesting, and trying to change things.

It’s also worth being careful with absolute statements. Calling whole countries or peoples “barbaric” or “sick” can end up mirroring the same kind of dehumanization that fuels conflicts in the first place. Criticizing specific laws, actions, or leaders is fair; but broad generalizations can shut down the kind of dialogue that actually leads to change.

Strong emotions are understandable here, but nuance matters if the goal is something better rather than just more division.

Israeli and Russian forces added to UN's annual blacklist documenting sexual violence in conflict

Both countries expressed outrage at the allegations and lashed out at UN secretary-general

An annual United Nations report documenting sexual violence in conflicts worldwide has included Israeli forces for the first time since the review began more than 15 years ago for their treatment of Palestinian detainees.

Israel denies the accusations.

The 35-page report — shared by the Israeli mission to the UN late Thursday ahead of its expected release Friday — blacklists 77 government and non-government parties in a dozen countries suspected of committing or being responsible for sexual violence in conflicts around the world. It says the number of cases rose sharply in 2025 from 2024.

Russian armed and security forces were also blacklisted for the first time this year for sexual violence against prisoners of war and civilians detained during the war in Ukraine.

The list for 2025 includes Israel's armed and security forces as well as Hamas militants, who were previously blacklisted after their attack in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which sparked the war in Gaza.

Both Israel and Russia were warned in last year's report by UN Secretary-General António Guterres that they could be put on the list.
Outrage at UN secretary-general


The ambassadors of both countries expressed outrage at their inclusion and lashed out at Guterres.

"We will write a letter to the secretary-general saying that these are unsubstantiated lies and alleged things which again portray Russia as a villain, like they do all the time," Russia's UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said. He said Russia is documenting and preparing a report on how the Ukrainians are treating Russian prisoners of war.

"We are done with this UN Secretary-General," Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, said in a statement on social media. "Guterres has put Israel on the same blacklist along with Hamas, ISIS and the most depraved terrorist organizations in the world."

Guterres's second five-year term ends Dec. 31.

Danon said Israel had provided documents, data and detailed responses to the allegations that are raised in the report.

The report said in 2025 the UN was able to document "patterns of sexual violence" against Palestinians detained in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories and verified multiple incidents of conflict-related sexual violence, including as a form of torture, inflicted on 14 men, seven women, nine boys and one girl from Gaza and the West Bank. It said 13 cases occurred in 2025 and 18 in 2023 and 2024.

"Violations consisted of rape, including with objects, gang rape, attempted rape, physical violence to the genitals, instances of targeted shooting of the genitals, touching of breasts and genitals, strip and cavity searches conducted without apparent security justification, forced nudity and threats of rape," the report stated.

It detailed at least nine victims, mostly from Gaza, who were raped or gang raped, in some cases repeatedly, by perpetrators from the Israel Defense Forces and Israel's prison service, its special forces and police units.

Israel's foreign ministry said Thursday it has "comprehensively, thoroughly, and unequivocally refuted these allegations."

"This decision is yet another example of the UN's long-standing, institutionalized hostility toward Israel," the foreign ministry wrote on X.

The report again includes accusations of sexual violence by Hamas, but says many of the details could not be independently confirmed because the Israeli government continues to deny the U.N. the access it needs to carry out investigations.
