I think I'm starting to hate universities. They're so bureaucratic and inefficient all the while being elitistic and detached from the real world. Are they a force for good or part of everything that's wrong with this world? FWIW I have a useless in the real world masters' degree and also have had a shot at PhD but didn't receive any financing.

Schools are based on fearmongering about what will happen if you don't do well enough, and the teachers also have to take **** all the time (from the students, the principal) and the overall reigning emotion is fear. I've gotten fired 2 times.
It would all be different if the subjects in themselves were so interesting that the schoolkids would willingly show up and learn new things without being forced.
