Russia may be more dangerous than a simple dictatorship. I think Putin is trying to have it both ways. the legal trappings and infrastructure of a democracy but with personal access to backdoor hacks that ensure it can never get out of his control along with a very high levels of genuine popular support that typical save him from having to rely on his cheats and backdoors to stay in power.
