Normally I would agree with you, but many of these countries have vastly different goals from each other as well as some having underlying conflict. The G7, otoh, is pretty well aligned on its goals and philosophy and has no underlying conflicts.

There is an enormous amount of ground to cover before they become the type of block the G7 is.

IF and when they get there, then I would agree that they would be an imposing counterweight to the G7. I just don't see that likely in the near future. But it is a beginning.
