So the DNC is not going to hold debates, essentially handing the Democratic nomination to Biden. trump is refusing to do debates and the rest of the GOP is to scared to stand up to him, essentially handing the Republican nomination to trump.

Normally incumbents do not have a real primary unless there is a significant challenger. Biden, perhaps unfortunately (I would prefer a significant heir, ant not challenger, but Biden has neither), doesn't have one.
I think Trump is also claiming to be the incumbent, and so there shouldn't be a real primary. He did lose last time... but maybe Republicans agree with him? If no significant challenger comes up then it could be argued to be the case.

There is always Joe Manchin. I think he may be considering it. I know nearly all professed democrats are "left" of Trump but I wonder how many are "right" of Biden?Originally posted by Jon Miller View PostNormally incumbents do not have a real primary unless there is a significant challenger. Not sure Newsom has that much gravitas to compel an incumbent President on his own. DeSantis, Haley, and a field of Republicans holding a debate without Trump could get interesting though.Originally posted by Berzerker View PostNewsom and DeSantis are running and both have the gravitas to compel debates"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. DeSantis had enough gravitas a few months ago. Now? I am concerned he is shooting himself in the foot.
I am wondering about Tucker Carlson. He doesn't have a job anymore.
Newsom is too establishment to challenge a sitting president. I am not even sure he is better than Kamala, but he might be (he has impressed me a lot more the last two years than the previous two years). Manchin could challenge a sitting president. I think he is too far right for most of the Democratic Party as it is now. But I could be wrong. Andt he would be interesting, because I think he could be more attractive to Independents than even Biden (much less many of the upcoming Democrats who are left of Biden).

In Tucker's favor, I think there is a lot of force behind populism still. The problem with Trump is that he is well enough known now that a lot of people are turned off him. That might be a problem for DeSantis too (and that he doesn't really have the presence, maybe, to be a really powerful populist). Tucker is good on TV, which is important as far as presence goes, and hasn't held office, so a lot of people will be willing to give him a chance.
As someone who is left and Democratic, I think I am more concerned about him winning a Republican primary than either Trump or DeSantis.
JM
(As far as winning the presidency goes, I do agree that Tucker is more of an unknown, so probably would prefer him to Trump or DeSantis. This is the benefit of being an outsider.)Jon Miller-

I was horrified to read that Harris will again be the running mate for Biden. Biden is at an age when there is a real prospect that he may die of old during a second term. I had hoped that he would select a running mate who could be a President. I would not want Harris running a Sunday School picnic.

He clearly wants to go out on his own but Fox still has his contract for two years so he has to negotiate an out to that.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Wonder if it is worth $40 million to them to keep him out of the game.....Originally posted by Dinner View PostHe clearly wants to go out on his own but Fox still has his contract for two years so he has to negotiate an out to that."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. bad PR, but they'd have to come close to that anyway to buy him out. He's sacrificing $ to be free but he might be able to make it up working at Newsmax or somewhere else. If CNN or MSNBC were smart they'd hire him and steal Fox's audience for at least one hour in primetime.
