Thing is, most everyone in Ukraine speaks Russian. The idea that there is some sort of pogrom against Russian speakers in a country where 30% use it as a first language and 50% use it as a second language is pure lies.

Russia has been failing and flailing to the West for, what, 400 years now? Only achieving a psychological parity with their theft of nuclear secrets, a parity which never existed in real life and one which dissipated with a flash in 1991. It's a country where alcoholism is a culture, not a disease, and as long as the country can't stay NOT drunk, Russia will never be anything but a 2nd-World power with 1st-World ambitions and a 3rd-World citizenry.

However, to everyone who dismissed my posts lamenting the several Western violations of international law, especially in Serbia, and Iraq starting 2003 please consider what you see here. Serb is as loyal a Russian that can be found and he has access to tons of foreign media. Even though he can concede that Russia is matching a classic definition of fascism, and even surpassing the US in that regard through adding territorial conquest he can't believe that the US and its NATO allies could be trusted to avoid acting like fascists themselves. Western violations of international law devastated the West's reputation as a treaty and law bound collective.

Only Russians can really stop Putin or a Russian successor acting like fascists and so long as Russians see so many "fascist" behaviors by their neighbors they will never stick their neck out for that. Every country starts off wanting to play by the rules but once several cheats are seen with no consequences, well it's almost impossible to regain public support for respecting international law.

This is also surely why the sanctions are so weak. Why should anybody outside the Western block want to uphold the inconsistent rules if they clearly won't apply to everyone anyway?
