So Ron DeSantis has shown his absolute contempt for Free Enterprise, Free Speech, and the unique American view that Corporation are People, by making Disney World Florida a gubernatorial fifedom. At this point Disney Corp. is not challenging the stripping of their authority.
The reason seems to be Disney Corp refuses to accept Putin's derective against promoting sexual deviance. (or the GOP version of the directive).
I've read editorials from Orlando, Florida (the nearest major city to Disneyworld) that this is a horrible and probably extremely costly idea.
So, a few questions -
1) Will this sink DeSantos with the GOP? I know they love social conservatives, but this seems to be an amazingly overboard reaction to political critisism. Does hating Gays trump corporate independance, free speech and free enterprise in general?
1) a) Speaking of Trump, can DeSantos sieze the lands of Mar a Lago? I bet he could make a different, but equally valid case against Trump, who is a more direct political opponent. I'd pay a nickel to see that!
2) Does Florida's Stand your Ground legislation, beloved by the GOP, extend to places of employment? You would think it would. If Disney management wanted couldn't they arm all their employees, and order them to resist any intrusion. This is 100% protected by the 2nd Amendment "A well regulated Militia" I'd pay a nickel to see that!
3) Is there an economic justification for this siezure? GOP, and conservatives in general, are always suggesting they are the masters of economics, but usually fail miserably. Disney payed for its own services (policing, fire, etc.)... I'm guessing the GOP won't be paying for it, but the Florida tax payers will.
