    Nothing so definite

    I asked other people IRL this riddle and the closest I got was also 'infinity.' Not all mathematicians, agree, however, that this is the answer.

    Actually the answer that I came up with might not be the answer either, I just think it is the closest thing, comparatively. I will accept 2 answers for this riddle:

    The mathematical one and/or the comparative one.

        You made me research that one, and I'm still on my first cup of coffee. Slept in a bit

        I would say you are close but that would be a misnomer of both my definitions. An axiom is too definite (in it's base definition.) However I will give another hint, as I have done all through this:

        My comparative/explanatory answer is DEFINED as it is a word in the dictionary, like Elok said. However I do not mean a dictionary definition, I mean a theoretical one. Possibly practical but well just run with it for now.

        Also this is my most active thrade I have made in years

            I has now placed a poast in this thrade.

                  You are as close as Plato was. Now follow through with that train of thought.

                  Remember an equation of some kind might also be acceptable... and also my comparative answer might not be considered mathematics, but it is still related to numbers.

                  I really should stop with the hints, but at this point I just want someone to solve it already

                        I am flattered my riddle is gathering such high-value answers (meaning of life, infinity, etc) even though none of them are correct yet.

                            No, but perhaps my biggest hint of all:

                            There is an idiom with the answer that also is shared with the word essence.

                              As the Hobbit or Gollum may say:

                              This thing all things devours;
                              Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
                              Gnaws iron, bites steel;
                              Grinds hard stones to meal;
                              Slays king, ruins town,
                              And beats mountain down.
                              One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                                VERY GOOD!

                                And I was unaware that Gollum had the same riddle re-worded. That is good company for me, he was my favorite character! Tragic indeed.

                                Welp, like I said this was a double-meaning riddle, so I will reword the riddle to a question format for mathematics:

                                What in math is considered undefined?
