  • Serb is in trouble and needs your Western help!

So, I really need your help!!! Pretty please!!!

I was driving my Lexus back home after a work today, then out of a sudden my radio hit me with this:

And I fell in love with this cover!
Sure, the original is classic from my childhood, but this one is awesome too!
It has the pain and nerve inside!

So, the lyrics are (it's George Michel's cover, if you don't know that funny guy who has been found guilty for masturbating in a public men's room, may him rest in peace):

    I feel so unsure
As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
    As the music dies
    Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
    And all its sad goodbyes

    I'm never gonna dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
    Though it's easy to pretend
    I know you're not a fool

I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I'd been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

    Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend

    To the heart and mind
    Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
    Pain is all you'll find

    I'm never gonna dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
    Though it's easy to pretend
    I know you're not a fool

I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I'd been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
    Maybe it's better this way
We've hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
Now who's gonna dance with me?
    Please stay

    I'm never gonna dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
    Though it's easy to pretend
    I know you're not a fool

I should've known better than to cheat a friend
And waste this chance that I've been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with youI

I sence that this song is about a cheater who feels giulty after his commited sin, but I still don't understand a couple of things/ So, I need your help, as a native speakers.

    First:
    "Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
    And all its sad goodbyes"

"The silver screen" is another word for cinema or a movie in my dictionary.
So, do I get it right that this phrase means:

"Something in your eyes reminds me a movie with a sad goodbyes at the end"?

    Second:

    "I'm never gonna dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm"

What the hell does it mean?!!!

Does it mean that the cheater always reveals itself at the end of the day?
That none cheater can hide its sin forever?

Please, explain this line to me!!!

    Third:

"I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I'd been given"

If he has cheated her, then why he calls her a "friend"?
Is she is his GF or just a friend? If she is just a friend, then how the hell it is cheating?

    Fourth:

    "Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend"

Time can never heal (mend = heal/repair, right?)
The careless whispers of a good friend"

What the hell doe it mean?
Does it mean that He will never forget the careless whispers he hears now, while dancing with Her?

PLEASE help me to fully understand this song!

    Thank you in advance!

As Plato said, you seem to've pretty much worked it out.

-This is one of those songs that was crammed down our throats when it was a hit a few decades back, BTW. I have very poor hearing, and never understood the words outside the chorus, so most of it is new to me. One assumes the lyrics may well have had real meaning to the writer, but I wouldn't take a pop song TOO seriously there's probably some words in there just because the melody demanded two of three more syllables to the line...

You know, when I was a kid in 1990's in the times of the original and my English was non-existent, I've heard the line as " A guilty feeling, God's no reason!"

I think the key of the metaphor is to juxtapose

These guilty feet have got no rhythm
                with
The way I danced with youI

-It's not the same with anyone else since he messed up w/ her (or this being George M, him.)
