Having experienced German "pizza", it's more probable that it was Italian hackers angry about that.

There's a lot of crap Pizza deliveries which have umm creative pizza variants which however are hard to call "pizza". They want to make a quick buck without offering quality stuff. Usually also exploiting the poor chaps who need to deliver it. Fortunately some of them pop up and go after some time, tho we can only hope the damage they did to The Holy Pizza remains limited.

However, this is why the loss of a good Pizza service would be a major issue to me

There is also a lot of rubbish pizza here too.
And a lot of rubbish beef yiros that uses cheap and nasty processed meat.
The lamb yiros is usually good though.

I've tried Dr Oetkers and Vapiano. German pizza doesn't seem that bad.
