There may actually be something to what Serb is saying. Not to the extent he is implying though. Within the US we have added Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, and now we are even discussing an agency to monitor "disinformation". All of this in the name of security. Freedom is slowly being eroded as we give up privacy and freedom because we are "scared". Overall, the trend here is to more government involvement in everyday life while our politicians become less and less accountable to the people. The last due to the great divide that has happened politically in our country.
All that being said, we are still enormously more free than a totalitarian State like Russia, but there is something to what Serb is saying.
