They probably have an even more enormous ****load of tanks now than ever and are just feeling symbolic for the first time this year.

Last year's parade was in May 2022, I would assume. They invaded in Feb 2022. Not sure that chronology stacks up.
That said my understanding is that the lead tank has always been the T34 symbol.
Curious that this year they didn't allow the march of the immortal regiment. Too many recent conscripts to that regiment maybe...?One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

According to Wiki, Russia had active at the start of 2022:
T-34...30
T-62...800
T-72...2030
T-80...480
T-90...417
T-14...130
Total: 3887
Estimates from February and March show between 1660 and 2000 Russian tanks destroyed. Ukraine has captured an estimated 500 Russian tanks. So, high end estimate is 64% of the tanks Russia had active in 2022 have been destroyed or captured. Low end is 43%.
Obviously, Russia has huge reserves of tanks. These vehicles however would very likely not have more modern sensors, sights, armor, etc... and thus be more vulnerable and less useful in offensive operations.
Western nations have committed tanks of all kinds to Ukraine totaling 793 MBTs. Most of those donated are updated T-72s. Many with advanced sensors, sights, and armor upgrades.
Not sure what Ukraine had active at the start or what kind of condition it was in, but it looks like Ukraine may have achieved armor parity with the Russians and on some fronts may exceed Russian strength in armor substantially.
I saw a statistic a few weeks ago that 90% of the Russian Army was now deployed in Ukraine operations. I imagine the tank figure mirrors this and that is why we saw the lone T-34 in the parade.
Russia now has an armor problem and it is getting worse by the day."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Russia is rehabbing T55s and sending them up to the front. I'm sure Serb will be along any minute to tell us how much better T55s are than Leopard 1s and even Leopard 2s.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

If Russia had a robust maintenance program for it's reserves like the US has had then the overwhelming majority will probably be eventually deployable. If they were not maintained at all however, likely only a small percentage will ever be deployable.

Yeah...I thought that strange as well but just quoting Wiki. Wiki did use the approximate sign by the number though. I guess 20 could be approximately 130 if you are in the Russian supply chain though!"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic.
