IIRC the current Kraut Gov plans to legalize it in the coming years.

At the moment IIRC it is already legal for medical reasons, i.e. Doctors can prescribe it to their patients, for example for pain treatment.

As for recreational use ... as BeBro writes ... not legal yet (although you won't be punished for being caught possessing small amounts of Cannabis (but AFAIK the cannabis will get confiscated in that case))
(I, for my part, would have to make a 1 hour drive over the border of the netherlands in order to buy Cannabis legally, if I desired so (my neighbors, who possess a holiday home in the netherlands, seem to regularly bring Cannabis from their holidays there ... according to the smells that regularly get through my open bedroom window ))

I'm even closer than that to the dutch border, 30' to a small city or 50' to a bigger one.

Don't get me wrong, I think weed should be legalized. Tobacco and alcohol are more harmful, and the resources spent combating it could be better spent doing almost anything else.

That would put your jurisdiction on the right side of the issue.

Being CA though it is probably regulated beyond belief.
