I was quite convinced that there would be no Russian invasion (because it would not serve Russian interests) until the announcement was made that a mass evacuation of civilians from Donbas and Luhansk to Russia was occurring in response to massive Ukrainian military aggression. That timing (as Ukraine was for the first time nearly encircled by the largest invasion formation in Europe since world war 2) was so absurdly ludicrous that there seemed to be no conclusion possible except that Russia was about to actually invade. I still can't believe anybody would believe that of all times to engage in a provocation, let alone a giant one, Ukraine would be randomly ape**** crazy enough to do that at any time following the initial buildup, let alone right near the end.

I wonder if Serb believes there was an uptick in Ukrainian military attacks during the buildup?

For now there's unity, certainly, since everone knows what's at stake. But it's impossible to say what happens when it comes to the worst.

However, the way NATO troops in the east are organized is rather smart - the so-called Battle Groups in Poland and the Baltic States are not numerically strong (even when they get upped now, and US troops are added in separately), but they are international, so any Russian attack would automatically impact several NATO countries at once.

One has to hope that it does not come to that, but after Vlad's recent TV performances his rationality is - mildly expressed - questionable.

Normally yes. But after all of Russian troops caught operating without insignia in the Crimea I doubt anyone seriously takes the reliability of Russian vehicle markings for granted.
