The police investigations are likely to end in charges so Boris delaying until then will be a clear stalling tactic.

I can not imagine Johnson resigning, no matter what. I also expect he will use every privilege available as am MP and as a PM to frustrate investigations. He will fight to the bitter end and be dragged screaming from No 10. And he will be dragged from No 10, the only question is "when". Theresa May sounds really really keen to tip him out of office, -
Yeah, I have no thoughts on his possible replacement as I don't follow UK politics that closely. My comments are from my knowledge of how Parliamentary Democracies work.
I agree, Boris doesn't seem the type to go quietly, but I think it's clear he must go, either now or later. The party will be feeling the hits and will have a limit to how much pain they are prepared to take in order to keep him on. If they must move on from Boris then sooner is better than later.
Let's hope for all the world's sake that whoever does replace him owns a comb/brush. -
Jacob Rees-Mogg is a name that seems to pop up a lot (and he is yet another Old Etonian). I have no idea if he is suitable. Dominic Raab, foreign minister is another name that seems to pop up. I have no idea if he is suitable. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (whose name I can never remember) seems to be a sycophant of Boris and does not sound at all impressive
