I believe there is a long known correlation between being left-leaning and having mental health issues. Not sure if there is a causal link, direct or indirect, or what that statistic actually tells you. It may simply tell you that left leaning people are more inclined to tell a random researcher that they have been diagnosed with a mental health condition (where it is encouraged to openly discuss these things) vs right leaning persons who have a stiff upper lip and refuse to have a healthy discussion. Or it could be that adopting a left leaning political view causes a greater emotional investment and mental load, caring about a broad array of people (poverty, climate change, etc), compared to being right leaning political view where the mantra is more to look out for number one or your immediate 'family' (e.g. America first). Or it could be that the left-leaning view is more pessimistic about the hope for the future and leads to more depression whereas right leaning is about making things great again.

Who knows. But here, it's used here as a soundbite.

Possibly worth adding that income, gender, ethnicity and level of social inequality all have sizeable impacts on mental health rates. Correlation... causation? Do these factors cause your political stance?

we've evolved with pain and suffering and greater intelligence, at some point grief, anxiety, pain, etc become excessively detrimental to continued existence so our brains try to distance us from the source of pain. Time heals all wounds... Our brains get over the trauma.

Also I think it has been shown geniuses suffer more problems, so maybe there is a biological speed limit on brains and intelligence. Maybe left leaning women are smarter than right leaning women, or maybe right leaning women have embraced religion thereby providing emotional stability while atheistic peoples dont have the luxury of such comforts.

I believe everyone is crazy regardless of political orientation
I mean there are probably people who are not crazy but you have to actively look for them.

As a sidenote, the only one who tried to psychiatrisize political orientation was hitler who said communists are mentally ill. He thought of that for gays as well.
But it didn't work out for him
