I was thinking that many of these Afghans are on US bases in foreign countries and they can not stay on those bases. They must go to somewhere. As you say the Democrats will not want to deport them back to Afghanistan. The American people do not want "whoever" coming into the country. That leaves the question of "where do they go?".

Her father was crying. They also killed other people.

A drone strike or a cruise missile strike gives the appearance of using power to go after the perpetetrators of something. A film of a stealth bomber taking off from Missouri to launch a smart bomb at a target on the other side of the world really does showcase American power and technology. It gives the voters a good feeling regardless of whether it actually accomplishes anything. Regardless of whether the target was even hit. Regardless of "collateral damage". It looks impressive.
