I used the ignore function on another forum to make a loon disappear and that forum was suddenly much better.

I agree.

The ignore function can create an echo chamber by cutting out all contrary views.

It is good to listen to different viewpoints, even idiotic views if widely held to develop some understanding of why those views are held.

On the hand, some people are a waste of space. I have only put two people on ignore ever. Both on another forum because they posted nothing but pure drivel.

I use the block or mute on twitter to keep porn off my twitter feed but that is all.
