But I thought kings were stupid and anti-hellenic.

Why would he be hellenic? He's (was) not an hellene

Anyway obviously the book is written from a certain POV but it is really interesting because it is simple.

You read a book about greek history (from a greek source) it will be biased (right - left wing perspective) and will be complicated because noone has the balls to make sure assertions.

I enjoy reading from abroad because it's simple, and while retaining a certain POV (rather clearly) it doesn't shy away from amking assertions.

It is clear that the meddling of foreign powers has both screwed and then saved Greece. I am positive though that if Greece wasn't dragged into fights by europe's antagonizing fractions (be that german, english whatever) it would have been much better.
