Gordon Chang: Did China’s Regime Downplay the CCP Virus to Allow for Its Global Spread? https://link.theepochtimes.com/mkt_a...d_3298741.html

"...Also, [you have] to remember that China knew about the human-to-human nature of coronavirus. They knew about it from [around] the second week of December, when Wuhan doctors were noticing that this virus was spreading, and the only way that you can account for that was that it was going from human-to-human. But Beijing did not acknowledge that until January 20, when they had a famed virologist appear on China Central Television, and it was the following day when there was the official acknowledgment of human-to-human transfer.
The reason why this is critical and why it’s relevant to the Global Times’ piece is that China knew that this virus would spread, but it tried to lull governments into not taking action. Remember that infamous January 14 tweet from the World Health Organization, which was based on China’s discussions with the WHO. WHO was saying that they didn’t see human-to-human transmission. I don’t know what was in Xi Jinping, the Chinese ruler’s mind, but he probably saw how crippled China was. If he was thinking that if he wanted to cripple other societies, he would have done exactly what he did. So, when they say, “Stay strong America,” you must view it in the context of taking actions, which have ended up in the crippling of America.
Mr. Jekielek: That’s quite an astounding statement. You’re suggesting that Xi Jinping or the Chinese leadership may have deliberately said that the coronavirus isn’t transmissible from human to human, so that it would spread around the world and cripple the rest of the world?
Mr. Chang: What are the other explanations for this? If China certainly knew that this was highly transmissible, and they then said it wasn’t? Why would they say that it wasn’t? I’m not in Xi Jinping’s mind. I don’t know what his intent was for sure, but you must look at what they did. What they did would inevitably lead to the spread of this virus outside of China’s borders; it would inevitably lead to public health officials in other countries not taking the precautions that were necessary at that point.
So, the culpability here is real. You could say it’s reckless; you could say it’s intentional. But the one thing that you have to say is that the actions that the Chinese government took, led to the spread of this virus around the world. They could have warned the world–they didn’t do it. In fact, they tried to put the world off. So, don’t take it from me, just look at the facts...."

"The European Union, the United States and China are the world’s largest trading partners. And yet, evidently, China is not trusted by any of its trading partners in the Group of 7 nations (G7) enough to be included in critical discussions dedicated to coordinating efforts to battle the pandemic.
The World Can’t Trust China
The G7 nations are a diverse group, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, the United States and the European Union. Alienating all of them at once in the midst of a global pandemic takes some serious focus and determination.
And yet China owns that dubious accomplishment. Its exclusion from this prestigious group of nations is serious and telling. No one in the world trusts them. And it’s not about political orientation, either—the UK is even coordinating with Cuba about a cruise ship struck with the CCP virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.
The Epoch Times refers to the new coronavirus as the CCP virus because the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP’s) coverup and mismanagement allowed the virus to spread throughout China and create a global pandemic. The virus started in China last year before spreading around the world.
But how can it be that China is left out of the most advanced nations in the world working together? Doesn’t it seem logical that given China’s seminal experience with the outbreak, that it would be a key partner in combatting it? Why wouldn’t China be at the forefront of such a group?

And yet, China was not only absent from the meeting, as far as one can tell, it wasn’t even mentioned. Such a comprehensive exclusion speaks volumes of either the G7 nations or of China. Sadly, the Chinese regime isn’t trusted by anyone in the world, least of all its own people. Its behavior hasn’t done much to help its cause in the world, nor for that matter, the world, in the current pandemic.

As the source and driver of the worst global pandemic in a century, China had a moral imperative to act responsibly and properly. Such actions would have included the Chinese leadership informing its citizens, and the other 6 billion or so of us, immediately and consistently about what it knew and had learned about the virus from the beginning onward.
Had that happened, it could have saved victims around the world much grief and misery. But just the opposite occurred. It withheld information and deceived the world. The Chinese regime had much of that data in the early days of the New Year, well before the epidemic became a pandemic.
The information China that knew about and learned before anyone else regarding the symptoms, transmission and lifespan of the virus, containment and treatment techniques, as well as other empirical data was suppressed or destroyed over period of several weeks, up to two months or even longer, for the sole purpose of preserving the CCP’s illusion of competence. In the meantime, thousands of people in China died.

Of course, had that information been made available, it would have been very helpful to the rest of the world in preparing for what was to come.
Instead, all the world got from China was denials and false assurances. Meanwhile, when Chinese authorities weren’t dragging people from their homes on suspicion of having been exposed to the virus, they were jailing thousands of other people in their own homes by welding their doors shut.
But the CCP’s culpability goes well beyond that. The CCP leadership didn’t just enable the virus to spread domestically. Their actions—or inactions—willfully allowed the Wuhan virus to spread to the entire world. There is no other way of expressing that fact except to say it thus.
The facts are clear. While the virus was spreading throughout Wuhan and Hubei province, infected workers were leaving town for their home villages hundreds of miles away in other parts of the country for the Lunar New Year holiday.
But other infected Chinese citizens, including tourists, workers and business people, were still flying freely out of China to cities and countries around the globe. The Chinese regime knew exactly what was happening in the earliest phases of the virus, and knew about the risks that they were subjecting the rest of the world to, and yet they allowed it to happen.
As a result, infected workers, engineers, students and business people flew back and forth from China into those countries with the deepest economic ties, such as Iran and Italy. And those nations, unfortunately have been the hardest hit by the CCP virus outside of China.
But infected people also travelled into Germany, France, the UK and the United States, without any word or warning. The CCP leadership did, however, see their way clear to arresting their own doctors and medical personnel who dared speak the truth about what was infecting and killing their fellow citizens by the thousands each day.
Such are the means by which a great country and a great power creates and magnifies distrust in the eyes of the world and among its closest trading partners. And undoubtedly, it is the same means by which a government diminishes itself in the eyes of its own people."I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

China Launches Global Disinformation Campaign in Attempt to Shift Blame for CCP Virus

A sprawling and aggressive disinformation campaign unleashed globally by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), sparked by a motley mix of internal failures, aims to upend the narrative over the pandemic—and it’s happening in real time.
The propaganda push, which has escalated in recent weeks, aims primarily to deflect blame over the Chinese regime’s botched handling of the CCP virus (widely known as the novel coronavirus), sow discord internationally, and portray the image that the regime has contained the outbreak.
Former U.S. government officials, China experts, and national security consultants told The Epoch Times that the disinformation campaign points to a bigger issue—Beijing’s global aspirations. The campaign has helped stir anger from Chinese citizens away from the regime and toward the United States, which has increasingly been a target of its propaganda. And some in the United States are buying it.
“Deception, disinformation, manipulation, distortion of the facts, obscuring their true intentions, and the patient steady erosion of the will to resist on the part of others is something that very much feeds into the global ambitions of the Chinese Communist Party to dominate the world,” Frank Gaffney, former assistant secretary of defense for international security policy during the Reagan administration, told The Epoch Times.
“It’s just one manifestation of it, but it’s a particularly insidious one, and it’s one that we ought to be alive to now,” said Gaffney, who is the executive chairman of the Center for Security Policy.
“Because, in some ways, it’s the leading edge of the larger, longer-term, and even more dangerous effort they [China] are mounting.”

Internal government documents obtained by The Epoch Times have highlighted how the regime purposefully underreported cases of the CCP virus and censored discussions of the outbreak, helping to fuel the spread of the disease, which is now confirmed to have infected more than 240,000 people internationally.

Chinese officials and state-run media have amplified conspiracy theories on social media platforms such as Twitter, most recently pushing claims that the origin of the virus isn’t clear, or came from the U.S. military, or that the CCP’s containment efforts bought time for the rest of the world to prepare.
State-run Chinese outlets, many of which have an English-language website, have pushed these theories almost daily, with some articles even threatening the United States directly, as seen in a March 17 editorial in Xinhua, which stated, “The U.S. side should immediately correct its wrongful behaviors … before it is too late.”
Although Chinese citizens are blocked from using Twitter, bots have been swarming the platform to defend the communist regime, attack the United States, and parrot propaganda narratives. A Twitter spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comment about whether the company is aware of the bots and if it has any plans to remove them.

Another narrative gaining traction in U.S. media holds that calling the pathogen “the Wuhan virus” is racist, despite the fact that Chinese state-run media have used the term themselves, as seen in Xinhua, the Global Times, and elsewhere. Previous diseases such as Ebola, Zika, the West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and the Spanish flu are all named after the location where the virus emerged.
Joseph Bosco, a former China country desk officer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (2005–2006), told The Epoch Times the aim of the regime’s sprawling disinformation campaign is to “shift blame and escape responsibility for its gross negligence and lack of cooperation with international health organizations.”
Bosco, a national security consultant and a fellow at the Institute for Corean-American Studies, said there’s an underlying reason why the United States was specifically targeted.
“Communist China sees the U.S. as the main obstacle to its aggressive global ambitions,” he said. “It seeks to enhance the CCP’s credibility and legitimacy, and to delegitimize the U.S. and the West.”

Beijing: The death toll in China's virus outbreak rose to 259 on Saturday and Beijing criticised Washington's tightening of travel controls to bar most foreign nationals who visited the country within the past two weeks.

South Korea and India evacuated their citizens from the locked-down Chinese city at the centre of an area where some 50 million people are barred from leaving in a sweeping anti-disease effort. Indonesia was sending a plane.
The number of confirmed infections in China rose to 11,791.
The United States declared a public health emergency on Friday and President Donald Trump signed an order barring entry to foreign nationals, other than immediate family of American citizens and permanent residents, who have travelled in China within the last 14 days, which scientists say is the longest incubation period for the virus.
China's government criticised the measure, which it said contradicted the World Health Organization's appeal to avoid travel bans, and "unfriendly comments" that Beijing was failing to cooperate."

""Just as the WHO recommended against travel restrictions, the US rushed to go in the opposite way. Certainly not a gesture of goodwill," said foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying."

China restricted travel to Beijing while it allowed its citizens to travel around the world. The whole time they knew the truth about the virus. Evidence... there is so much out there... Here is just one sample
An investigation by the New York Times has revealed that experts and administration officials tried to warn Trump of the serious nature of the coronavirus pandemic early on. Alerts from high-ranking government experts began as far back as January, six weeks before his administration finally sprang into action on March 16, when he issued concrete guidelines for the public.
The report exhaustively outlines numerous ways in which Trump avoided listening to government authorities as they proposed strategies for dealing with the pandemic. It also details an administration mired in political bickering, which hamstrung officials at every phase of their response. The report prompted epidemiologist Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, to respond that “obviously” lives could have been saved if the government had taken the warnings seriously.Keep on Civin'

This is from the hit piece in the NYTimes that Ming posted which is basically the accusation....
"- The National Security Council office responsible for tracking pandemics received intelligence reports in early January predicting the spread of the virus to the United States, and within weeks was raising options like keeping Americans home from work and shutting down cities the size of Chicago. Mr. Trump would avoid such steps until March.
- Despite Mr. Trump’s denial weeks later, he was told at the time about a Jan. 29 memo produced by his trade adviser, Peter Navarro, laying out in striking detail the potential risks of a coronavirus pandemic: as many as half a million deaths and trillions of dollars in economic losses.
- The health and human services secretary, Alex M. Azar II, directly warned Mr. Trump of the possibility of a pandemic during a call on Jan. 30, the second warning he delivered to the president about the virus in two weeks. The president, who was on Air Force One while traveling for appearances in the Midwest, responded that Mr. Azar was being alarmist.
- Mr. Azar publicly announced in February that the government was establishing a “surveillance” system in five American cities to measure the spread of the virus and enable experts to project the next hot spots. It was delayed for weeks. The slow start of that plan, on top of the well-documented failures to develop the nation’s testing capacity, left administration officials with almost no insight into how rapidly the virus was spreading. “We were flying the plane with no instruments,” one official said.
- By the third week in February, the administration’s top public health experts concluded they should recommend to Mr. Trump a new approach that would include warning the American people of the risks and urging steps like social distancing and staying home from work. But the White House focused instead on messaging and crucial additional weeks went by before their views were reluctantly accepted by the president — time when the virus spread largely unimpeded.
When Mr. Trump finally agreed in mid-March to recommend social distancing across the country, effectively bringing much of the economy to a halt, he seemed shellshocked and deflated to some of his closest associates. One described him as “subdued” and “baffled” by how the crisis had played out. An economy that he had wagered his re-election on was suddenly in shambles."
Mkay, it's fake news. It's written like the article he posted on the riot in Portland. It's already been debunked. Navarro and Azar have both said that there was no basis of truth to this story. The government under Trump was acting as it should have, gathering information and informing the President. There was no "finally agrred." No one was pressuring him.
