Maybe intelligent life is doomed to succumb to its own success. Humanity has been so successful we have probably grown beyond the capacity of our planet to support us. We may be doomed to succumb to global warming or wars over diminishing resources that turn nuclear and wipe us all out. Perhaps civilisation will collapse due to resource shortages or economic problems and if we do not decommission nuclear power and nuclear weapons on the descent to barbariasn the contamination may wreck the planet. We have many ways to exterminate ourselves.

Someone should secretly send a probe out to a distance of Mars or somesuch and send a message and see if Earth based teams pick it up and recognise it as a non natural signal. Could be that we are actually **** at listening despite claims to the contrary.

I would say there are cheaper, and more cost effective tests. So cost is a reason not to do this, but Musk blasted a Tesla into space, so he has money to burn. Plus it would be a fun prank if it can be done in April 1.

Another possibility is that SETI efforts so far have searched a very tiny chunk of the sky using a very tiny chunk of the spectrum.

That is a very feasible explanation.

I am by no means suret if it is possible for aliens to travel between the stars and if if is possible it may not be worthwhile for some presently unknown reason.
