Some of you will recall hearing about the famous Cannonball Run races from the 1970’s as well as its secessior races which continued into the 1980’s. They were secret illegal road races going from coast to coast using public roads. In 2006 these were revived as the Apex race and the old records from the 2970’s and 1980’s started to fall. It is dangerous and illegal but these races still draw a certain type of person who wants to set new speed records for coast to coast travel by car on public roads.
