Rewatched Lawrence of Arabia on TMC yesterday. I have forgotten how good it was. It's right up there

Watch a remastered cut in a real movie theater and it is even better.

Best movie according to my opinion:
Lost in Translation (2003) with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson

The greatest mix of melancholy, romance and comedy of all times IMHO
and with a great song from the Jesus & Mary Chain Gang just at the right moment: "Just like Honey"

Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

Dr Strangelove, Unforgiven, Scarface, The Godfather, The Dark Knight, Raiders of the Last Ark, The Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Caddyshack, Airplane

as others have noted, LoA is probably in the running for the best movie.

          Who are the 5 nominees?

Its looking like LoA is one of them

While lost in translation was good I saw some experimental french cinema that blew whatever remnants of hollywood still lingered out of their protracted misery.
I don't know what the best movie is but it is most definitely french.

Not my fault you cant' appreciate the fine art of film making.

For me it's "Streetcar named Desire", the original one, with Brando and Leigh.

factoid about Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it was partly funded by big fans of Monty Python. Namely Pink Floyd... They used some of their proceeds from Dark Side of the Moon to pay the bill for it. And according to John Cleese, it was not a pleasant experience. They filmed it in cold and rainy Scotland.
