  • Scientology ship quarantined over measles

A US cruise ship placed in quarantine after a case of measles has reportedly left the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

Online tracking data shows the ship - thought to be the Freewinds, owned and operated by the Church of Scientology - is en route to the island of Curacao.

Dr Merlene Fredericks James said on Thursday there was a confirmed case of measles on board and "thought it prudent that we quarantine the ship".

Reports suggest the ship set sail after authorities delivered 100 vaccines.

Idiots saying vaccinations are dangerous, and idiots not vaccinating their children. Idiot's free speech vs. reality.

    What did they think?

I find it interesting that ~700 cases in ~350,000,000 total population is worth calling an epidemic.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

It was down to 2 or three per year (mostly returning vacationers/ tourists/ immigrants) until a few years ago. Basically wiped out in North America.

Yes, I'm aware of that and it's a shame; still, compared with the black death, spanish flu, smallpox or polio, it's a bit over the top.

I'm sure if any of those had 700 cases reported this year, that there would be a similar response.
(and the time to do something about it is before there are 7000 cases.)
