  • Do you rather vote for or against something?

Ignoring the fact that any vote in the end is *for something formally in that you decide *for an option.

But the motivation can be positive (support for party, policy, candidate) or more negative when you select your option only to block another (like I vote for only for Roslyn to not get pres Baltar and the Cylons again etc.)

Personally I have increasingly trouble to find a party I *really support, so I'm taking a "lesser evil" approach mostly. Which I guess comes down to voting *against...

    Just sayin'/discuss/whatever

I prefer to vote for. However, if I like none of the choices, I will vote for the least bad.

It really depends on the situation. I would prefer to for for something, as in "this party fits with my beliefs, I vote for them to succeed", but sometimes I'm putting my vote to the party that is the most opposite of the evil party
Sometimes I wish there was an option to vote against a certain party instead of voting for a party. Sometimes I'm like "I don't care if party A, B or C wins, but I want to do everything possible to avoid party D from winning"
This space is empty... or is it?

I have the luxury of voting for, until this recent election my state was a solid red so it didn't matter what I did. I probably should have voted for the Democrat and against Kobach this time but I want to keep the Libertarian Party on the ballot. And I'm not a fan of 2 party rule, they just take turns screwing the country up as the pendulum of discontent swings back and forth. I want a constitutional amendment banning political parties and their damn primaries. Short of that I want open primaries so non-party members have a say in who gets nominated and an end to all gerrymandering even if it means fewer people of color in Congress.

Those are the 2 main reasons Congress has become so polarized, we created 'safe seats' in both parties by drawing lines around populations to concentrate them into Republican and Democrat districts rather than making them competitive. The result is congressmen on both sides further away from the political center. When feasible cities should be carved up like the center of a pie and spread out across the state so representatives have to compete for a more diverse constituency.

I dont know what I'll do in 2020, but if its Biden v Trump I'll go Libertarian again. Joe's personal story is compelling but he's just Hillary II to me. Cant you Democrats nominate someone who didn't spend the last few decades waging wars?

It doesn't matter because it's the question that matters.

i.e. Do you think bebro is silly?

                  Yes No

Do you think bebro is earnest? (=serious/solemn)
                  Yes No

the affirmative or negative changes by how the question is posed.

One would say that a contradictory spirit would vote "against" something so you can formulate the question in such a manner so as to influence the result taking into accoun the electorates' disposition. And it does happen.

In the coming elections I will vote for Syriza and I will do that knowing full well that I serve democracy, the nation and style.
I never voted for something in order to stop something else. I always voted for what I believed in. What I believed in became the government of Greece and saved this country. I will OF COURSE vote for that. Also **** the fascists.
