Huh, that's weird, because the Spanish for green is verde.

Serb, it is just Spanish for "foreigner" so even you can be a gringo.

Considering the fact that "Gringo" already was a well known term way before the US soldiers adapted green uniforms (they wore blue (or grey, in the southern states) during the civil war and Khaki some time thereafter), the hypothesis also gives insight into a certain lack of knowledge about history

Serb! You know there is a whole neighborhood called Stalingrad in Brussels, the heart of Europe (in honour of Stalingrad of course). Pretty good neighborhood. Of course it's nothing compared to Stalingrad's honour. Just saying it is a nice detail

BTW I've been to a mainstream wxhibition and the professor noded in agreement while saying: americans thank god before massacring people in their imperialistic campaigns. Their society is behind the COWS. that's mainstream european thinking btw.

This post reminds me of the joke that was told back then when the germans were retreating:
Q: What is the Soviet city the Wehrmacht took this week?
                    A: Retrograd!

What is the point of this joke? I don't get it.

We're not disputing that the word exists, just that your etymology is wrong. If you'll notice, the wiki you linked to presents the etymology as understood by linguists, and then the folk etymology--that is, the etymology as understood by people who are wrong.

Thus you could make the World a better place.
Because you bring only misery, death and destruction wherever you step in.
