  • You're Marty McFly. You get transported to a pre-Elvis 1955. It's the prom, you have to perform 3 songs from the future. What do you choose?

Assume (because this is a fantasy based on a movie):

    1. You have the chops.
    2. Your backing band can handle whatever you throw at it. Kanye. Led Zep. KISS. Whitney. Jay-Z. Whatever.
    3. If you are female, then you're Martalina McFly. Don't fight the hypothetical!

So? Do you do something stupid like Marty did and play something from a few months away, or do you shatter their world? Are you more desirous about entertaining them, or do you just want to start a riot? How will the students react to your set list... and how will the chaperones respond?

Your three songs can change the future! Don't **** this up!

Your too-soon denial of an unanswered question disturbs me. And your Dad, I assume.

So, you're just gonna leave them with no hope for the future.

I'd start with something kind of recognizable, a good ****-kicking song which will get the kids dancing and be recognizably (I guess) familiar enough so that people can relate. The Devil Went Down to Georgia would be my lead song in the set. Won't get kicked out for this one... that'll have to wait.

Then it's time to introduce them to guitar rock. Everlong, the Foo Fighters. Also melodic enough that it wouldn't sound like noise to everybody (but it would to some, that's for sure).

Then, **** it, time to light their **** up with some rap. I would do some Kanye, either So Appalled or, since this is a dance, All of the Lights. Including intro.

(For some reason, I can't fathom doing a slow song for the couples dance... any suggestions?)

For our encore, we might as well get kicked out of the building: Hot for Teacher, Van Halen would do the trick (which, in the movie, I thought Marty would kick in some EVH. C'est la Vie.) Hope we make it past my groundbreaking guitar solo, but probably not.

Something out of the realm of Symphonic metal, I guess ... lets see how the backing band can handle to emulate a whole orchestra and background vocals ... maybe even chorus

Epica - Cry for the moon
Nightwish - Endless Forms, most beautiful
                  Within Temptation - Mother Earth

All titles also selected for their societal criticism

Hot for the Teacher - Van Halen
Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. 2) - Pink Floyd
                    School's Out - Alice Cooper

(posted this before I finished reading post #8)

I figured we might as well get kicked out early.

Hell, for my slow dance I'll just play "Patience" by GnR. That gives me five songs, but suck it: I'm the OP!
