Cape Town, South Africa is due to run out of water by some time in April according to current projections. Desalination and other schemes are coming online gradually, but not quickly enough. They're advising people to dig pit latrines in their backyards and save as much as they can to delay "day zero." Could be worse--imagine what it will be like when this finally happens to the American Southwest.

This is what happens when you don't build sufficient infrastructure. Here in San Diego county since the drought in the late 90's:

      1) We have doubled local storage capacity to capture local run off

      2) We have created a gray water system throughout the region so that recycled water can be used for a number of thing (landscaping, agriculture, and industry are the big three).

      3) We have started a local water banking system to help recharge aquifers.

      4) We changed land use regulations to require retension basins as this also increases our "sponge capacity" so that floods becomes less likely but it also prevents pollution from moving off sites in urban areas and allows water to infiltrate tgus helping ground water levels.

      5) We built a desalination plant for supplimenting local supplies.

      6) We lined the All Americqn Canal which brings water to us from the Colorado River so that less is lost to perculation along the way.

We still have a canal from the nortg which can supply use with water from the LADWP system but that all eventually comes from North California and is expensive so we try to avoid using that. It is nice to have an additional supply location though.

My suggestiin to South Africa is stop letting corrupt ANC officials steal everything and actually demand action. We've done it; so can they.

Canada had plenty of water. And my grandfathers aren't doing anything...

If San Diego does run out of water, the hipsters should have an ample supply of craft beers.

The world doesn't have a water problem; it has an energy problem. With sufficient non-polluting energy sea water could be desalinated and pumped anywhere in any quantity.

Step 1: wormhole to smaller mass planet with water
Step 2: wormhole to larger mass planet to serve as drain
Step 3: generate electricity from gravity fed flow through the wormholes

                          1. Open wormhole
                          2. Wormhole turns out to actually be a portal to hell
                          3. Demons come pouring out, slaughter everyone
                          4. Water is no longer scarce

Also would have accepted “proper head” jokes.
