  • Joe Arpaio announced his candidacy to run for the U.S. Senate seat in Arizona

On Tuesday, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced his candidacy to run for the U.S. Senate seat in Arizona to replace Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who will retire at the end of 2018.

Now will this rally the faithful or be another Roy Moore experience.
The man is 85 years old and made his career pissing off Hispanics. How can he expect to win a state wide election when he couldn't even get re-elected locally?

I don't think he has a chance. What do others think?

I think itn is a good thing.
Good chance for the democrats to take this senate seat from the republicans ...
and even if, surprisingly, he wins, it will be a sour vicory for the rpublicans, as it surely will generate negative PR,
among undecided voters s well as among non hardcore republicans ... and will hve a profound negative effect on any future elections

Well he does have to win the primary first. We'll see if the Republicans have learned from the lesson of Roy.
Do you think Trump will outright support him in the primary?

He pardoned Arpaio and seems to like him ... I have no doubt that he will support him.
I also have no doubts that Arpaio will win the primaries ... enough hardcore Trumpists around that will vote for him

I figure if Arpaio loses the primaries trump will name him head of the FBI or Department of Homeland Security.

If that happens, then they haven't learned. Arizona is not as red as Alabama so the margin of error is even less.

Arpaio is 85? That alone disqualifies him.

Agreed, but I will admit that he didn't look that old in the interview. I would have guessed younger.

Only the good die young, so Arpaio will probably live to be 105.

As long as it votes along party lines. Like the dead in Chicago.

It will be an interesting clown car show to watch. There is at least one main stream Republican in the running though and the odds are she will win it.
