  • CPU security flaws

Everyone's affected! We're all gonna die....or at least we might have to play Doom in lower resolutions due to a possible slowdown

    (panic mode off)

Here's why computer processors are vulnerable to hackers thanks to two recently discovered bugs.

I was actually toying with the idea to get a new comp this year... /2 cents

Just bought a new one last year so not expecting to replace it soon. Fortunately the sucker is so fast that I probably won't notice any slow down since I don't play any of the really cpu intensive games.

Actual testing on the Linux patches showed slow downs of 6% - 20% depending upon the task. If you are mostly worried about gaming, then your slow down will be on the lower end (depending upon the game, some have reported 0%). I think the key will be how good your graphics set up is. Cheap machines that offload graphics to the CPU will most likely suffer the worst.

BTW, the BBC assessment of Cloud computing security is exactly the opposite of what one should deduce. This is why they are all scrambling to patch their entire systems. On the other hand, this could be a big opportunity for AMD.

I got a high end graphics card and I play old timer games, so not expecting to even notice.

casual browsers will probably not really notice much change.
