This is still a significant issue, even if it is more nuanced than the bare "wage gap" statistic. There are three issues I see surrounding this problem: (1) Are women discouraged from seeking higher paid jobs/promotions by our educational institutions, cultural standards, etc? (2) Are women denied higher paying jobs/promotions because of straight up discrimination? (3) Even if part of the reason why women avoid higher paying jobs is because they decide to be mothers, that is ****ed up because (a) it shouldn't automatically be the case that women have to suffer for children and (b) having children is literally necessary for the continued survival of our civilization, so we should try not to penalize the people who choose to do it.
