That`s roughly 1/3 of the total american population (of all age groups) (and therefore an even higher percentage when we just take into account the adult US citizens)

When we talk about unequal pay we don't mean cases where men work in a lower position (in the work hierarchy) and/or are less educated than the women.
We compare the wage of men and women who are doing the same jobs, have the same education level and are working fulltime (so, women who are working halftime, due to kids, for example, aren't actually taken into account)
And here, unfortunately it still is the case that, if you have a Penis, you will earn more money than if you have boobs, despite doing the same job and having ther same education

Definition of Gender wage gap according to https://data.oecd.org/earnwage/gender-wage-gap.htm
The gender wage gap is unadjusted and is defined as the difference between median earnings of men and women relative to median earnings of men. Data refer to full-time employees and to self-employed.
The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers. The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers. To find the median, your numbers have to be listed in numerical order from smallest to largest, so you may have to rewrite your list before you can find the median.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank...pay-gap-facts/
The estimated 17-cent gender pay gap for all workers in 2015 has narrowed, from 36 cents in 1980. For young women, the gap has narrowed even more over time. Back in 1980, they earned 67% of their male counterparts, compared with 90% in 2015.
There are two distinct numbers regarding the pay gap: unadjusted versus adjusted pay gap which takes into account differences in hours worked, occupations chosen, education and job experience.
[...]Factors like this contribute to lower yearly earnings for women, but when all external factors have been adjusted for, there still exists a gender pay gap in many situations (between 4.8% and 7.1% according to one study[1]).
Unadjusted pay gaps are much higher. In the United States, for example the unadjusted average female's annual salary has commonly been cited as being 78% of the average male salary.
If it was true that women are paid less for the exact same job, companies wouldn't need to move overseas, they could employ full female staff instead. Fact is that no company does that, there must be a reason.
As another example of the need to agree on words and definitions. Germany:
Women earned 22–-23% less than men, according to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. The revised gender pay gap was 6–8% in the years 2006–-2013.[27] The Cologne Institute for Economic Research adjusted the wage gap to less than 2%. They reduced the gender pay gap from 25% to 11% by taking in account the work hours, education and the period of employment. The difference in revenue was reduced furthermore if women hadn't paused their job for more than 18 months due to motherhood.
One in particular told me about the story she hears weekly from female friends/colleagues:
A married couple decide to have a child. They decide one of them will take a job that does not require to work extra hours, or maybe even a part time job. Most of the time the husband will pressure the wife to be the one that give up her career for raising the child. This is what upset Belgian (reasonable) feminists. We have indeed a few hysterical ones screaming and fighting for the mythical wage gap described above) but they are in fact counter productive as they distract efforts and money from the real issue.Last edited by Dry; September 27, 2017, 06:05.The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its own shame. I'll be the first to admit that great strides have been made in reducing the gender gap in pay. This was not accomplished by companies acting like good citizens, it is the result of a lot of pressure being brought to bear on them. I think it's a tad early to say mission accomplished. To say that it's not so bad anymore so we shouldn't worry about it is just plain wrong.
