    While you've got a me thread going, I've got another Byzantine pronunciation question for you: Nicephorus/Nikephoros. A very common name. Is it Nee-kay-FOR-ohs? Nee-KAY-for-ohs? Something else?

      etymologically nikiphoros means "the bearer of victory" nike = victory. phoros = bearer
      (in the same sense that christopher means the bearer of christ - carried him over a river if I'm not mistaken. which is why he's the patron saint of drivers)


      So the pronounciation should be....
