Why can't they all be like Norway, which uses North Sea oil, but doesn't have to excuse itself for much stuff, except maybe Viking orgies and insisting to use overly rolling "R"s???

But no, instead we got Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, which for some reason unknown to me insist on either getting into heavy economic (and resulting from that, also political) trouble despite being resource-rich, or funding fundamentalists (hehe), or at least being quite fond of fundy stuff (hehehe) with the excuse that Iran does it too or something.

UK still has a drop or two of oil and has been supporting Salafists in Syria for about six years. Also committing genocide in Yemen with its Saudi and US chums.

Like any crutch: use it too much and get dependent. Just human nature.

Would be wise to plan ahead to add diversily as long as resource-income is still flowing.

In other news in would also be wise to not neglect electric cars for quite a while instead of installing cheatomatic software into cars to drag out with Diesel technology way longer...but oh well

Short-sightedness seems to be a global epedemic.

Yeah what was up with that? Seems like a very un-German thing to do.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I don't know the reason for this unKraut (insider joke for Germans) behaviour.

If I had to guess maybe something along the line of "large companies rather like to repeat long term success stories/profits over and over, even when a certain tech is beyond their high point, because they get less flexible over decades of doing well using basically the same tech (even if modernized), and change is always painful"

Or maybe they just got lazy
