If I go, I usually play the craps tables because you can get true odds without investing much. Or I'm in the sports book.
I sometimes play the slots to pass a little time.
But as with all gambling, I treat it as entertainment tax, which if it can't be afforded, I'm not doing it.
So if I get lucky and don't lose, I win, and sometimes I even win.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I am thinking about going to Valley View Casino for their 4th of July buffet special. $20 gets you an all you can eat Maine Lobster buffet dinner where they serve honest to goodness Maine lobsters. As many as you want. They also have various beef options, dungeoness crab, shrimp, and all the other stuff you would expect at a casino buffet. I generally avoid all that extra stuff though and concentrate on the high value items.

Competition has been good for consumers as when there was only one or two Indian casinos the buffets sucked and the drink prices were high. Where as now buffets have really improved while virtually all of the buffets include unlimited alcoholic drinks. I think I can eat $20 worth of crustaceans and booze thus making it a good bargain.

From steak & seafood lunches to all-you-can-eat Maine lobster dinners & a large dessert bar, the best casino buffet in San Diego is at Valley View Casino.

          Sounds good!

I tend to eat a little bit of everything -- yes, even the cheap stuff -- because you never know when you will find a gem. There is a special place in my heart for the chipped beef on biscuits at the Argosy.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Chipped beef in gravy on a split biscuit? I'd give it a try though it might bring back the trauma of eating "**** on a shingle" during my Army days.

              Better:
Programming an algorithm and doing automated daytrading at the stock market

More fun (during programming and teaching the algo) and better chances of getting a null sum game or even winning money

I only visit Casinos for the tasty, cheap buffets.

I make sure to thank the slots players in passing for subsidizing my meal.
I admit I sometimes get tempted into playing cards (mostly blackjack) but only on rare occasions though and never for large amounts. I will head over to one of the half dozen local Indian casinos when they are offering a deal on the all you can eat lobster and seafood buffet though because that is too good to pass up.

If you are in Vegas and are either broke or don't want to spend much then making a few low dollar, high payout (meaning long odds) bets at the sport book pays for itself in free drinks. Plus you get to sit down and watch the games so it is win-win as far as I am concerned.

Yes, entertainment tax. For all the money you make I am a tad surprised that the deals seem to provide your biggest motivation.

People who waste money tend not to get rich in the first place. The main exception to this are the people who are born rich. The next exception to this are the people who marry into the rich.

And those people who are born rich have a good chance to waste their fortune doing so.
There has been some research into it, which found out that 70% of wealthy families lose their fortune in the 2nd generation ... and 90% will have lost it in the 3rd one.
Often the founders (i.e. the generation that came to wealth by their own diligence) are rather reluctant to inherit the wealth to their children, because they think those aren't prepared to handle it:
                                http://time.com/money/3925308/rich-f...s-lose-wealth/

When I asked financial planners why the wealthy are so poor at passing along money smarts and why second- and third-generation heirs turn out to be so ham-handed, the answers were surprisingly frank.

A sampling: “Most of them have no clue as to the value of money or how to handle it.” “Generation Threes are usually doomed.” “It takes the average recipient of an inheritance 19 days until they buy a new car.”
