  • I must have an ulcer

I hate to say it, but I bought otc acid reducers and I'm using pepcid for now but I might start the prilosec again. I have constant pain in the small of my back, I need to have my stomach and esophagus scoped. I've heard the proton pump inhibitors (like prilosec) have been linked to kidney disease and that H2 blockers like pepcid aren't as tough on the system, but the list of side effects is still a concern. I might need surgery, to sew up a hole or strengthen the esophagus/stomach valve. frack

I cant believe how I got this problem, eating big meals and laying down to watch TV... A simple change in my routine and 3 months later my esophagus is messed up from stomach acid. Television is the devil!

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear this. The pleasure I feel from your misery. Joy from your pain. I was having a so-so day, but NOW... now I feel alive. This is because of YOU Berz. Every time I eat from now until forever I will be thinking of Berz and his ulcer... how wonderful that he has one and I don't. I will break out in song randomly in public from time to time and when questioned I will respond with Berz's ulcer. All I can say about this, Berz, is...

My God. Thank you for getting this ulcer, Berz. Thank you.

Wow, that's pretty low for you. Normally you at least make an attempt to be funny.

What can I say. I have a dark sense of humor.

This actually comes from my idea of going to the Bethesda forums and laughing at everybody's game-breaking bugs while saying how much I will enjoy my game now, etc etc. But I would get banned after the first poast.

Regardless, this one probably crossed the line. But your track record does indeed make me want to cut you some slack. But I know how painful his condition is.

no, and apparently there is a bacterium that can cause ulcers... But my problem may be an ulcer, or some kind of small hole or tear. Or possibly a hiatal hernia, the pepcid has worked though. I might actually commit to a regimen of ant-acids this time. When the doc prescribed me prilosec I started getting unpleasant symptoms and quit. Its also possible the sphincter connecting the esophagus to the stomach is weak after years of gulping down big meals instead of eating smaller, well-chewed meals. But I suspect it could be the sphincter too, the pain would come and go and it seemed related to the muscle there relaxing too much from various foods, like chocolate and I luv chocolate. The doc told me marijuana also relaxes that muscle temporarily and some foods can have a similar effect.

I'm sure that's not your only sphincter that is weak, AMIRITE?

Your problem sounds worse than my symptoms, but when I started to experience frequent heart burn, I found reducing meal sizes worked a treat.

I, have to admit that I, for myself, was tempted, just for a moment, to congratulate Berzerker to his new Ulcer
But fortunately I succeeded in my save throw in decency

                      Hope you get better, Berz

I've been on the pepcid for 3 days now and the burn has mostly subsided but I know I cant just keep popping pills, I'm already getting side effects, like a gravely throat - minor compared to the prilosec

I'll be looking into a possible scope exam next week...

anyway, maybe I shouldn't be knocking the acid reducers...they do come in handy for short term healing of acid damage

Good luck. Can't have acid reflux while standing over a 10 foot putt.

Get checked out for acid reflux. If it is damaging your throat then it is likely acid reflux.
