  • Great movies you don't want to watch a second time

... even when they were very good

    - 12 years a slave

    - Das weiße Band/The white ribbon

I recommend both if you haven't seen them. IMO they're too "heavy" to be watched as pure entertainment, nonetheless very good. Feel free to provde moar.

I keep meaning to watch Grave of the Fireflies. Need to find time without the kids around first though.

I was going to include The Passion but I have actually been thinking that a watching it again might be good... so I guess it isn't here after all.

              Nineteen Eighty-Four (the 1984 version)
The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty…we will be remembered in spite of ourselves… The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.

                Cloud Atlas (2012)

Good for watching it once ... but that's enough

Disagree. I think that it is a film that is much better the second time you see it. You will not be distracted by the story discontinuities and can appreciate the acting, music, and visuals a lot more. It's not a movie that is harmed because you 'know the ending."

Okay, just watched Grave of the Fireflies. Glad I watched, but yes, once was enough.

                          Most of them.

                          ...

                          Except Aliens.

                          ...

I must have watched that four dozen times while designing ships for Megatraveller.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Nevermind was an album, not a movie, and while culturally significant I would definitely not call it "great."
